Hey! I’m Rachel

Get to know me more than what’s listed on my resume

I grew up obsessed with photography. My grandfather was an underwater photographer, traveling the globe and scuba diving to document rare creatures on the ocean floor. My father nurtured my interest by investing in DSLRs and teaching me how to shoot sports photography. We bonded by making images of countless swim meets, softball games, and dance competitions.

Fast forward to high school and this interest translated into a fascination with magazine production and an editor position on the yearbook staff for all four years. In college, I majored in Photography with a minor in Creative Advertising and jumpstarted my career as a designer for a portrait studio.

As I progressed, I knew photography would remain a hobby while graphic design felt like the right career choice. Since then, I have perfected my craft and grown in the ranks.

While my resume will walk you through my professional timeline, here’s what it won’t tell you. As an Art Director, I have found my home. I feel a comfort and satisfaction in knowing that this is what I am supposed to do, professionally.

I still get to be frequently in the weeds of Photoshop and XD, however, my day-to-day consists of more strategy building, creative advising, and client partnerships. I excel in presenting to stakeholders — transforming complex ideation into an understandable and persuasive story. I oversee million dollar campaigns — advising on media placements, developing creative strategy, partnering with copywriters, storyboarding for animators, and guiding designers.

When I am not in the land of pitch decks and pixels, I have a myriad of other hobbies to keep me busy. I am an avid reader, an advanced tap dancer, and a lover of travel and exploration. These days, my main hobby is expertly preparing chicken nuggets and washing bottles as I chase around my two kiddos, Owen and Kaia. They keep my husband and I on our toes and watching them grow, learn, and find themselves is a true joy.

A true, and utterly exhausting, joy.

Character traits I bring to the table

Leadership Skills

I try to inspire my direct reports to stay diligent with our creative work while maintaining an eagerness to learn and grow. As a team, we exude dependability and we are known for our ability to develop innovative creative solutions while meeting the deadlines of our media partners and clients.

Positive Energy

As I tell my five-year old, attitude is everything. The best technical designer won’t be the one that people want to work with if they can’t quickly communicate, stay organized, and bring a positive energy to the workplace. These skills have also helped me cultivate personal connections with my clients that immensely aid our professional relationships.

Collaborative Working Style

While I am confident in my skills as an Art Director, a good leader knows they are nothing without their team. Creating a successful campaign takes willing collaboration from the Creative Directors, Art Directors, Designers, Copywriters, Animators, and Project Managers.
